Thebes is a competitive archaeology board game where players act as archaeologists traveling across Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East to gain knowledge about five ancient civilizations: Greek, Cretan, Egyptian, Palestinian, and Mesopotamian. By gathering knowledge, players can excavate historical sites to unearth valuable artifacts and win expositions. Players' actions consume time, measured on a 52-space track representing weeks, where the player furthest back in time takes the next turn. Artifact tiles are drawn from a bag containing both treasures and dirt, adding an element of chance.
