In Banned Words, players must help their teammates guess five secret words or phrases while avoiding traps set by the opposing team. Each team writes down up to sixteen words they think the other team might use, and after exchanging cards, the clue-givers take turns giving clues. Points are awarded for correct guesses and for using banned words, with the highest-scoring team winning after three rounds.
