BoardGamesSwap has now been active for half a year, and we are incredibly happy to see the community of active users continue to grow day by day. As one of our first users, you play a crucial role in this journey. Your feedback, suggestions, and involvement help us continuously improve the platform—such as the recent update, which was largely based on your feedback from the Autumn Sale.
From now on, there are 3 account types, with the distinction applying only to sellers (nothing changes for buyers: all buyer-related features remain fully available at all times).
1) Shipping only (no chat feature)
Buyers can purchase the game online and have it shipped.
The chat feature is disabled, meaning no questions can be asked and the process requires minimal effort.
2) Pickup / negotiation only (with chat feature)
Buyers pay only for the game.
The handover is arranged through mutual agreement via the chat.
3) Shipping & pickup (with chat feature)
Buyers can choose between shipping or pickup.
Full flexibility and communication via chat, ideal if you want to keep all options open as a seller.
During the update, everyone was automatically assigned to account type 3 (Shipping & pickup). You can easily change your account type via your account settings in the seller panel (see our FAQ and Getting Started pages for more guidance). You can adjust this at any time according to your preference or sales situation if you do not wish to keep both options active.
These 3 account types can be used completely free of charge. However, each of them also has a Premium counterpart. While commissions cover part of the costs, they are not sufficient to keep the platform running. We therefore no longer want to reserve functionality for paying users and are switching to an adjusted revenue model where free accounts will see slightly more advertisements than before.
Premium accounts, for a monthly fee of €0.50, will not see any advertisements and will continue to receive the Premium label on their product listings. You can select this account type via your account settings in the seller panel.
The temporary removal of restrictions on the number of games per account type has now been made permanent, in line with our goal of no longer reserving functionality for paying users. BGS should remain accessible to everyone, regardless of how actively you sell.
We were required to increase our shipping costs proportionally due to courier price changes starting in 2026. This results in an average increase of 4% for domestic shipping and 6% for international shipping.
